2004 Goals for the Marquette Beautification & Restoration Committee
1. Be a more visible committee to the community
Hang banners on South Front Street, there are two designs
Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter
Expanding the Daffodil project to planting more bulbs each fall and
possibly planting them in the flower beds with grass.
Establish a committee website
Contact Cook Sign about a community service billboard
Have publicity releases in the Mining Journal with a picture of
committee members promoting our projects.
2. Be more involved with local city committees
Get involved with the Long Range Planning Committee & the Parks
& Rec. Committee by having a representative at each meeting to report back to the MBRC.
Receive the Agenda & minutes from the planning commission. Get a
report quarterly from one of its members.
Have City Manager Gerald Peterson speak to our committee
annually to keep us updated on city projects.
Attend a City budget hearing and make the Beautification request for
funds.
3. Attempt to expand our project visibility beyond S. Front Street
Help with the planning of reinstating the Terrace Gardens in the
lower harbor.
Have a representative on the planning & implementing the butterfly
garden on Lakeshore Blvd.
Restore the Father Marquette statue. Work on getting grants to
fund this project.
3. Promote more educational programs for the community
The Committee programs this year will
have a wide range of topics to educate local citizens
Promote our programs via area publications, radio
stations and public service announcements. Always mention that guests are welcome.
Publish our entire calendar in the Mining Journal and/or the
Marquette Monthly.
Send a copy of our calendar of events to all those in our
corporate and friends drive.
4. Continue/expand our Awards program
Add Spark Plug Award given to residential houses who have had
improvements
Give an award to a downtown area business for their creativity
in their window display.
