Marquette Community Garden Group
The Marquette Community Garden Group was founded in 2003
when serendipity brought several Marquette residents, who all
shared a love of gardening, but had insufficient yard space,
together.
With the help of Marquette Breakfast Rotary, organizational
meetings occurred, resulting in a relationship with City of
Marquette. MCGG drafted bylaws and rules, operates through
Marquette Park and Recreation Department, and has space in
Park Cemetery that is rented to Marquette residents.
In 2004, the garden was expanded to a total of 44 garden plots
and Moosewood Nature Center developed a program of planting
native wild flowers and grasses along the south fence line.
Several plots are reserved for area children groups and for
donations to food banks.
