MBRC 2011 Award Recipients

MBRC each year honors those individuals and/or businesses that have made a positive impact on Marquette.
The MBRC awarded the Green Spirit Award to two recipients: Michigan Energy Option for their involvement in helping individuals and businesses to save energy; they are a non-profit energy demonstration center which is primarily grant funded by the U.S. Dept. of Energy. The Green Spirit Award was also given to the U.S. Coast Guard Station Marquette, for building a new facility which is energy efficient. It received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for green buildings.
The Phil Niemisto Volunteer Award was given to Emily Lewis.
The Barbara H. Kelly Historic Preservation Award was given to individuals who have been influential in preserving history and/or historical buildings: Granite Island Lighthouse Restoration – Scott Holman; Marquette Regional History Center; Tyler Tichelaar - Author; Phyllis Wong – Gossard Factory.
The Commercial/Business Improvement Award was given to area businesses that have shown some improvement to their properties: Black Rocks Brewery.
The Window Display Award was given to Farmer Q’s and Superior View Studios.
The Spark Plug Award is given to area businesses and/or individuals who have made a dramatic change: Snowberry Heights – for their gardens and Tourville Apartments – for their gardens and grounds.
The Sign of the Times Awards were given to Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Sweet Water Cafe.
The Green Spirit Awards were given to Harlow Farms – Sunrise Builders and to Northern Michigan University.
The Certificate of Appreciation Award was given to Michelle Cook.
The Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to Paul Albert, Marquette City Arborist and to Don & Nancy Fraling, owners of Beef-A-Roo.
